Ângela Barreto Xavier is a Senior Researcher at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa. She holds a PhD in History & Civilization from the European University Institute in Florence and a MPhil. in Political and Cultural History, and a degree in History/Art History from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She has taught at the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and at the Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa (ISCTE-IUL). Additionally, she has served as a Maître de Conférences Invitée at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, a Visiting Scholar at the History Department of Harvard University, and a Guest Professor of the Cunha Rivara Chair at the University of Goa. She frequently collaborates with the Universidad Complutense of Madrid.
She has published intensively in Portuguese and other languages. Her main books are: A Invenção de Goa.
